What Are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are essentially tooth root replacements that take several months to implant.

During the first step of this procedure, a titanium screw is surgically placed directly into your healthy jawbone in the empty gap. Time is then allowed for the titanium screw to fuse with the jawbone in a process called osseointegration, which can take three to six months. This is a very important step, as it will ensure a solid foundation for the replacement tooth.

The second step in the procedure occurs only after the dental implant has successfully fused with the jawbone. The gum tissue over the dental implant is opened to allow our experienced team to place a small abutment or post on the titanium screw. The abutment will be visible above the gum line and is used to attach the artificial tooth.

When the gum tissue has fully healed around the dental implant post, the final step in the process can be completed. This involves permanently attaching a porcelain crown that is custom made to match the color and shape of your existing smile.
