At Galleria Dental Aesthetics, we help McLean, VA patients achieve the smiles of their dreams. This is also the case for patients who are faced with lost teeth. Replacing missing teeth may be overwhelming to some patients, but with no-fuss solutions such as dental implants, our team makes it easy to make a decision regarding the best possible option.
What is a dental implant?
Dental implants are restorations that are used by a dentist in a variety of situations. In fact, these versatile prosthetics are popular because of the many ways in which they can be utilized.
- Replacing a single tooth – a dental implant can replace a single tooth in the smile that is missing. This standalone restoration requires the implant to be inserted into the bone of the jaw, and then restored over the top with a single dental crown.
- Replacing multiple teeth in a row – if patients are missing several teeth in a row, they can place a dental bridge. However, not all patients have strong adjacent teeth which can be used as a support for one or both sides of the dental bridge. In situations such as this, patients can place dental implants in the bone to anchor the bridge in place.
- Replacing an entire smile – alternatively, patients missing all the teeth from the dental arch can use an alternative to a permanent full denture. Implant-retained dentures are popular because they allow a patient to anchor the denture in place. This eliminates the need for denture adhesives which often fail to work properly. Implant-retained dentures give patients confidence to enjoy all their favorite foods!
