When the muscles, nerves and ligaments of your teeth and jaws do not work harmoniously together, the resulting pain can be unbearable. The symptoms of temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJ) can intrude on your life, making it difficult to concentrate and focus on everyday tasks.
TMJ can cause a host of uncomfortable and often painful symptoms, including:
- Chronic headaches
- Sore jaw
- Back, neck and shoulder pain
- Ear pain
- Ringing in your ears
- Jaw locks open or closed
- Facial swelling
- Clicking or popping jaw sounds
You may experience one or several of these symptoms. Many people deal with these symptoms for years without treatment before learning the pain is caused by TMJ.
TMJ disorder may be the last thing you think of when you experience these symptoms. The symptoms can be vague, and could be easily misdiagnosed. If you are suffering from one or more of these symptoms, our experienced neuromuscular dentists can determine whether TMJ is the cause.
If you think you may be experiencing TMJ and live in Arlington or the surrounding areas of Virginia, please contact Galleria Dental Aesthetics to schedule a consultation.
