Changes in Dentistry can Change Your Dental Experience

Dental Technology | Invisalign | Fillings | Sedation DentistryWe’ll just say it: most people don’t like to see the dentist. We suspect that it has been this way since the very first formal dental offices were established over 150 years ago. We know through ancient text that dental problems have always been a frustrating aspect of being human, and also that conceptual thought about cavities and infection existed many hundreds of years ago. The development of formal techniques took centuries. Fortunately, it hasn’t taken more than a century for those techniques to be refined. In fact, we seem to be honing dentistry on a continual basis now. This is advantageous because the changes in dental techniques and technologies can significantly change a patient’s experience.

Modern Dental Techniques to Serve our Patients in McLean, VA

Sedation

Of all the advances that have been made in dentistry, it may be the establishment of safe and reliable sedation techniques that has made the most significant difference. Millions of people in our country alone avoid seeing the dentist due to fear. So, the availability of oral conscious sedation is a game-changer for ongoing oral health. If you have perpetually postponed dental care, contact our McLean office to learn more about sedation dentistry.

Mercury-Free Fillings

Dental fillings represent some of the most commonly performed restorations in dentistry. At the time amalgam fillings were developed, they served a need: the need for an affordable alternative to gold. However beneficial this may have been, amalgam fell short (and still does) of complete success. In our office, tooth decay is repaired with composite resin. Tooth-colored fillings are more attractive, more stable, and less hazardous due to the absence of mercury in them.

Invisalign

Just a few decades ago, the very idea of being able to straighten teeth without braces may have seemed incredibly far-fetched. However, methods of orthodontic care have been in a state of evolution for many years. The first braces wrapped individual teeth in metal bands that held an archwire. As orthodontia was refined, we moved to small metal brackets. Now, we have Invisalign, which has no brackets or wires at all. Invisalign uses clear plastic aligners to gently reposition teeth that are overcrowded or spaced too far apart. Additionally, this method has been enhanced to adjust bite issues, as well.

We enjoy continuing to learn new techniques that can help our patients get the most from their dental care. To schedule a visit with us, call (703) 448-1020.
