Dental fear and anxiety shouldn’t keep patients from visiting their dentist and receiving the necessary treatment they require for a healthy, beautiful smile. Patients of the McLean, VA area who are concerned about their trip to the dental chair are welcome to call Dr. Chong Lee and his team at Galleria Dental Aesthetics to learn about sedation options available.
What types of sedation are used at Galleria Dental Aesthetics?
At Galleria Dental Aesthetics, patients in and around the area can work with our dental team to choose the sedation and anesthetic method appropriate for their unique needs. Below is a sample of the sedative options available with our staff:
- Local anesthetics – whenever extensive dental work is being completed, we also utilize anesthetic injections to block the pain receptors in the mouth and numb the area. These injections can be done before or after other sedation treatment. In most cases, patients are treated with sedation prior to using the needle to administer local anesthetics.
- Oral conscious sedation – a popular option for our patients with mild to moderate anxieties is our oral conscious sedation method. This is the use of an oral medication that is prescribed to the patient and taken before they arrive at the dental office. This medication allows them to feel relaxed and coherent while getting through their dental visit with no anxiety. Patients considering this method will want to arrange transportation to and from the dental office.
- IV sedation – patients with severe anxieties, or those who are undergoing a series of treatments during one visit, may benefit greatly from IV sedation. IV sedation administers sedation directly into the bloodstream using an IV. This is a deeper sedation and is not as strong as general anesthesia used in hospital surgeries.
