Proper alignment of your teeth and a properly functioning bite are essential to the health of your teeth and body, and, for adults, orthodontic treatment in Arlington is increasingly recommended to achieve a healthy mouth and body. Interestingly, according to an American Dental Association (ADA) study, more than 20 percent of orthodontic patients are adults.

An adult has several options when seeking orthodontic treatment in Arlington. The suitability of these treatment options differs greatly from person to person, and the only way to determine the best orthodontic solution for you is to schedule a consultation with the experienced Northern Virginia dentists Dr. Chong Lee and Dr. Joseph Oh.

INVISALIGN®: THE ALTERNATIVE TO METAL BRACES

Invisalign® may be part of the reason that many adults, in need of orthodontic treatment are seeking treatment to align their bite or straighten their teeth. Discreet and effective, Invisalign® is popular for several reasons, including:

  • Clear, plastic aligners are significantly less noticeable.
  • Removable aligners make brushing and flossing easy.
  • Invisalign® can address a wide range of orthodontic issues.

According to the ADA, a common reason that adults avoid orthodontic treatment is apprehension about what they will look like while wearing braces. Invisalign® makes it possible for you to straighten your teeth without metal brackets and wires.

Unfortunately, Invisalign® cannot correct the entire spectrum of malocclusions. There are some cases which simply cannot be adequately improved with Invisalign®. In these cases, we can often offer the patient a modified orthodontic plan that will use Invisalign® for a portion of the treatment time and metal brackets for the remainder.

Instant Alignment

You may only need cosmetic treatments to improve the appearance of your teeth. We may determine that you will benefit more from porcelain veneers than braces. Veneers are used to disguise common cosmetic problems, including:

  • Unevenly shaped teeth
  • Unevenly sized teeth
  • Chips and cracks
  • Spaces between the teeth
  • Internally stained teeth

In some cases, teeth are very small, causing space between them. These teeth might not need braces but will benefit from tooth veneers instead. Veneers are thin, porcelain shells that can be placed over your teeth, creating the appearance of uniformly sized and shaped teeth without gapping; however, if we determine that you have any misalignment, you most likely will need Invisalign® or braces.

BENEFITS OF STRAIGHT TEETH

At Galleria Dental Aesthetics, not only do we want you to have a beautiful smile that you are proud to show, but we also want you to have a healthy, strong and functional mouth. Orthodontic treatments create stunning smiles, but straight teeth and a properly aligned bite have health benefits as well:

  • Straight teeth have been linked to lower levels of plaque buildup.
  • Straight teeth are easier to brush and floss effectively.
  • A properly aligned bite improves your ability to chew and eat.
  • TMJ symptoms can be alleviated by aligning your bite.

Even if you wore braces as a child, many adults have some degree of misalignment. Teeth continue to shift past childhood, and orthodontic treatment can correct your bite and result in a gorgeous smile.
