Actual Patient
One aspect of providing the highest quality dental care involves eliminating outdated and lesser quality treatments from our practice. White fillings, or tooth-colored fillings, are made of composite resin. While metal fillings have been in use for over 150 years, and have served their purpose well as the only option available during much of that time, Galleria Dental Aesthetics is committed to providing only the highest quality filling products to their patients.
WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES OF WHITE FILLINGS?
Safety
Dr. Lee, Dr. Oh and Dr. Mortazie believe today’s composite resin bonding materials provide safer and superior alternatives that eliminate any reason to use mercury containing amalgam fillings.
Cosmetic
The composite resin or porcelain used for white fillings, inlays and onlays can be tinted to any shade of white. Your therapeutic restoration doubles as an excellent cosmetic touch.
Stability
White fillings are more stable when exposed to hot and cold liquids and foods, compared to metal fillings that expand and contract. As such, white fillings help preserve the strength of the tooth.
ARE WHITE FILLINGS STRONG ENOUGH TO USE ON BACK TEETH?
White fillings made of composite resin may be as strong as amalgam fillings depending upon the exact size and placement of the filling. They do not require as much drilling as amalgam fillings so leave more natural tooth structure in place. In cases where bite pressure may risk the integrity of the composite resin filling, a porcelain inlay or onlay may be a stronger alternative.
WHY ARE WHITE FILLINGS PREFERRED FOR FRONT TEETH?
Composite resin fillings are preferable to amalgam fillings for front teeth because they can be color-matched to your teeth making them unnoticeable.
HOW LONG DO WHITE FILLINGS LAST?
White fillings made of composite resin can last many years, but do tend to stain when exposed to substances such as red wine, coffee, cola, black tea or tobacco. Small stains can often be filed down to expose an unstained level of the filling. When that does not work, they may be able to be touched up with a new layer of composite resin. Alternatively, the filling can be replaced.

TOOTH BONDING VS. WHITE FILLINGS
White fillings are just one application of the composite resin used in tooth bonding. Other treatments that employ tooth bonding include reshaping teeth, filling gaps between teeth, creating veneers and correcting imperfections.
