How do I know if I need a dental filling?
During your routine dental appointment for a cleaning and evaluation, the dental team may take x-rays to monitor one’s oral health. These diagnostic images can be used for a variety of purposes at dental practices, but they can also allow the dental team to look for signs of cavities. Often, cavities can also be seen by the dental team during a physical evaluation. The dental team can talk to patients about the size of the cavity and whether or not it needs a filling, crown, or other type of treatment.
What can I expect when I get a dental filling?
The placement of dental fillings is a routine procedure performed at Galleria Dental Aesthetics. The filling material is a composite resin that is the same color of natural tooth enamel. The patient is first anesthetized and sedation is used as well if needed. Then, the decayed portion of the tooth is removed and the area disinfected. The composite resin material is put into the tooth and cured, or hardened, using a special light. Once the composite resin is solid, the dentist then files and polishes the filling to blend it in with the natural tooth and sufficiently seal the tooth from bacteria entering inside.
