How Does Oral Conscious Sedation Work?
- Posted on: Aug 30 2019
Patients with dental anxieties may have heard about the benefits of oral conscious sedation for putting individuals at ease for their dental visits. At Galleria Dental Aesthetics, we are pleased to offer oral conscious sedation for patients with mild to moderate dental anxieties.
Understanding oral conscious sedation
Oral conscious sedation is a method of sedation available at Galleria Dental Aesthetics. This method of sedation requires patients to pick up a prescription medication from their pharmacy that is prescribed prior to their next appointment. Patients are to take their sedative medicine prior to leaving the house for their dental visit. Patients arrange transportation as they are not to drive while under the influence of oral conscious sedation. Patients arrive for their appointment relaxed and awake and can get through their dental appointment without any anxiety. After their treatment is complete, the patient is returned home with transportation and rests off the medication. Upon wakening, most patients have no memories of the appointment but have their work completed.
Why choose oral conscious sedation?
This method of sedation is most appropriate for those with mild to moderate anxieties. It can also be combined with other sedation methods available in the office. By combining methods of sedation, patient comfort is improved further. This type of sedation is often chosen because it is simple, effective, and affordable.
What other sedation methods can I choose from?
Galleria Dental Aesthetics also offers the following forms of sedation for patient consideration in our practice:
- Nitrous oxide
- IV sedation
- Anesthetic injections
All of these are safe and are administered by our dental team. Patients can ask for these upon request and can ask our professionals about them to decide if they are better suited for their level of anxiety and their budget.
