Dental anxieties are a common issue—not just in children but in adults as well. At Galleria Dental Aesthetics, we are well aware that many patients are fearful of the dental chair. This is why we are pleased to offer patients solutions to make their experience a positive one with sedation dentistry.
What is sedation dentistry?
Sedation dentistry is a field of dentistry that provides a focus in sedation. Sedation is a wonderful option to help fearful patients get the dental care they need. Some patients will use sedation for extended procedures, while others may require sedation to get through a simple cleaning and examination. By working with our team of professionals, patients are able to choose the sedation method that works best for their level of anxiety. We provide:
- Oral conscious sedation – a popular method of sedation available in our office is that of oral conscious sedation. This particular sedation is essentially a medication that is prescribed for the patient. The patient will take the medication approximately one hour prior to visiting the pracitce to allow it time to work. They will eb awake and coherent when they arrive and are able to follow instructions and answer questions from our dental team. When they are taken back home, they will rest and will wake up with little to no recollection of their visit. This method of sedation requires patients to arrange transportation to and from the dental pracitce.
- IV sedation – another method that may be used for patients with severe anxieties is IV sedation. This is a much deeper sedation and can be used on adults who do not want to remember their appointment at all! This method may also be used for patients who are having extensive dental work completed in just one appointment to ensure optimum comfort.
