Drs. Chong Lee, Joseph Oh, and Kirsten Lee VA are dental professionals who help patients in the community to achieve healthy, beautiful smiles. This includes using restorative procedures to enhance the smile and protect it, such as dental crowns.
What is a dental crown?
A dental crown is a restorative treatment that is used by dentists to repair or strengthen a natural tooth. The restoration is made with porcelain, a material that is durable and beautiful. Also known as caps, these crowns are used to cover the tooth and give it an extra layer of protection when it is weak or broken. This eliminates the need for extracting the tooth permanently and seeking restorative treatments such as dental implants, dental bridges, and dentures.
How does a crown work?
To place a crown, the dentist will first prepare the tooth. This will be done by removing a layer of enamel from all around the tooth prior to taking impressions. The impressions, or molds, are then sent off to a dental laboratory for creation. Our dental team will often put a temporary crown in place while patients wait for their permanent one. Within about one week, the restoration will be ready to be bonded into place.
How long can I expect my dental crown to last?
With proper care and maintenance, our team of professionals are able to ensure that the dental crowns will last for many years. Most of our patients who attend their routine appointment and who take pride in caring for their smile every day at home will be able to enjoy their crowns for a decade or longer.
